The CAT4 Level B test is generally taken by children between the ages of 8 years 6 months to 10 years 11 months for entry into Year 5. Selective schools will use this test when a new student has moved nearby and an assessment of the child’s ability is required to determine if the school is a good fit. A complete CAT4 test consists of eight sub-tests; each of these tests assess a different cognitive ability which help to determine a child’s future potential. The best approach to using the tests is to firstly do one of the subtests and then review the answers and solutions in detail so you completely understand how to approach a similar question in the future. This is key to improvement – do the test and then review the questions and their solutions in detail – this essential step will help to understand the different question types and if another similar question is presented in the real test then it won’t be a surprise. I also suggest you repeat the test possibly after a day or a few hours to allow your mind to absorb the approach and come back fresh. When you redo the test it will randomly select questions from the question bank and also display them in a random order along with the answers – although this will be quite unique each time there may be a question or two which are similar but its unlikely to be exactly the same in placement and order as before.

You should aim to get 80-90% to have a solid chance at the real CAT4 Level B test. These practice test questions and answers are randomly ordered and will help familiarise you with the questions but ultimately it is the performance in the real test and any practice tests are simply an indicator. A lot of parents have had a good results using the process above but as a parent myself all I can hope for is for my child to do the very best they can.
